HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that damaged the West Side Elementary School building in Herrin.

Firefighters were called out Monday afternoon and found smoke billowing out of a second story window. The building had not been used as a school for a number of years and is privately owned. It did not have electric service at the time of Monday’s fire.

No one was hurt and the building is still standing.
