CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Men’s Golf program announced the signing of Michael Mikus Friday.

“We are so thrilled to add Michael to our Saluki family,” Head Coach Justin Fetcho said. “With Michael’s background, he comes in as one of the most experienced golfers to step foot into our program.”

Mikus hails from Costa Rica and will compete for the Salukis in the 2025-2026 season beginning next fall. He is ranked inside the Top 500 World Amateur Golf Rankings and is the number two amateur in Costa Rica. The Salukis will enjoy the wealth of experience Mikus brings to the program.

Here are his top career accomplishments:

  • Two Latin America Championships (Winner gets an invite to The Masters)
  • Two U.S. Junior Championships
  • Two Junior Players Championships at TPC Sawgrass
  • The Amateur Championship
  • Helped the Costa Rica National Team win the 2023 Central America Golf Championship
  • 2023 and 2024 Junior National Champion of the Costa Rican Tour
  • Won Individual Central America Championship in 2024

“Michael brings the attitude and work ethic that we look for in potential team members for our program,” Fetcho said. “He wants to compete at the highest level and is willing to put in the work to do it, and after Interacting with Michael and his family, it was easy to see that he would be a great fit for our program.”
