CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A man is facing multiple charges after trying to disarm a deputy during an arrest.

On November 12 around 5:30pm, Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic battery on Fowler School Road.

Deputies were advised that the suspect, Billy Williams, was threatening to kill his neighbor, could be heard aggressively slamming items, yelling, and making threats.

When a deputy arrived on scene, Williams tried to flee, but the deputy caught up to him. Williams resisted, fought the deputy, and even grabbed the deputy’s rifle. The deputy was able to get Williams to let go of the weapon, pin him down, and a second deputy that was arriving helped place him in handcuffs.

Williams was cited for Aggravated Battery To A Peace Officer, Attempt To Disarm A Peace Officer, Threatening A Public Official, Resisting a Peace Officer, Unlawful Possession Of A Weapon By A Felon, and Aggravated Assault.

Upon release from the hospital Williams will be taken to the Williamson County Jail.
