VIENNA, Ill. (WJPF) – Residents of Vienna are being told not to drink the tap water after a toxic algae bloom was found in the water supply.

Officials say boiling or freezing the water has no effect and residents should not drink the water under any circumstances. Pets should also not drink water from the tap.

While unsafe to drink, the EPA says Vienna tap water is safe to bathe in, wash clothes, and clean dishes – although they do recommend that those items are allowed to dry completely before use.

There will be a water distribution event Monday at the Vienna City Park from noon until 4:00 pm.
