SIU Softball dominated the Missouri Valley Conference Awards Wednesday morning.

Freshman ace Maddia Groff took home both the Freshman and Pitcher of the Year awards.  She led the Valley in completed games (17), ERA (0.70), shutouts (9), strikeouts (220), and wins (28).  Her 28 wins lead the nation and ties SIU’s single-season record for wins.  It is the 6th-best all-time amount of wins in MVC history.

Sophomore shortstop Jackie Lis received the Most Valuable Player award.  Lis ranked 2nd in the Valley in batting with a .362 average.  Her 48 runs scored is a league-best and her 34 RBI ranks 5th in the MVC.  Her on base percentage of .489 ranks second in the Valley.  She also ranks second in the league in home runs with 16.

In addition, Jen Sewell’s coaching staff was named the Valley’s Coaching Staff of the Year.  The staff led SIU to their 5th regular-season MVC Championship and their first since 2010.

Groff, Lis, and Elizabeth Warwick were all named to the All-MVC First Team.

Warwick was also named to the conference’s All-Defensive Team.

Sidney Jones, Rylie Hamilton, and Emma Austin all earned All-MVC Second Team honors.

The Salukis play Murray State Thursday in the second round of the MVC Softball Championship Tournament in Normal, Illinois on Thursday at 10 A.M.
