New Country Z100, WOOZ-fm in Southern Illinois, recently held their 30th annual Radiothon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital March 28th and 29th.  Their grand total this year was $688,432.45!  This was a record-breaking year of giving to the research hospital which was started in 1962 by actor, Danny Thomas.  Throughout the years, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has brought the overall cancer survival rates up from 20% when the hospital was founded, to 80% today.  Throughout the Southern Illinois region, individuals listening to Z100 radio are asked to become “partners-in-hope”, with a $19 per month contribution.  Local business were asked to donate to the cause, and, students throughout local school districts participated in a “Quest for a Million Pennies” penny drive, all of this and many more events were designed to raise as much money as possible.

One of the highlights in this year’s event occurred at 5:30pm on Friday, March 29th, when Clark Transportation from Marion, IL donated $400,000.00 to help bring the radiothon to a dramatic finish.  You can hear their donation from the radiothon below.

The final total for this year’s 2-day event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital came to $688,432.45.  All together over the past 30 years, River Radio General Manager, Steve Falat, stated that throughout the 30 year history of the St. Jude Radiothon, Southern Illinois residents have donated close to 6 million dollars to the life-saving research that continues at St. Jude in Memphis, TN.  Click below to hear the final total for 2024.
