West Lafayette, In. — The Salukis wrapped day one of the Purdue Invitational Thursday night with two school records broken in the same event. Celia Pulido broke the school record for the 100- yard backstroke with a time of 52.28, which led into the 400 medley relay group of Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Jules Atkinson and Masha Zhukova breaking the school record with a time 3:40.50.
Prelims
The preliminary session of day one ended with two individual top three finishes for the Salukis. The first was the women’s 200-yard IM by Olivia Herron, her third place finish was clocked at 2:01.54. The other key finish was by Alex Santiago in the men’s 50-yard freestyle, his second place finishing time was 19.69.
Finals
In the day one finals session the Salukis had four top three finishes in the men’s 200 freestyle relay, the women’s 200 IM, men’s 50 freestyle and the women’s 400 medley relay.
Alex Santiago, Donat Csuvarszki, Jered Moore and Nicolas Lanuza finished second in the men’s 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:18.67. Olivia Herron finished third in the women’s 200 IM with a time of 2:01.67. Alex Santiago had the second place finish in the men’s 50 freestyle with a time of 19.64. The women’s 400 medley relay group had the third place finish with the record breaking time of 3:40.50.
The Salukis will continue tomorrow with day two of the Purdue Invitational at 10:30 a.m. with prelims, followed by finals at 6 p.m.. The meet can be followed on Meet Mobile and the Meet Central Page.
