DU QUOIN, Ill. (WJPF) – An hours-long, armed stand-off ended peacefully in Du Quoin.

The situation began around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday when police received a report of an armed man who had locked himself inside of an apartment on West Park Street.

Witnesses say the man was a veteran having a mental health crisis. State police have not confirmed or denied that.

After hours of negotiations, the man surrendered to police around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. No one was hurt.
