MAKANDA, Ill. (WJPF) – Residents of Jackson and Union counties will be able to help themselves to free firewood from Giant City State Park.
The firewood collection program begins February 1. Wood can only be collected from designated locations and a special permit and waiver will have to be signed before any wood can be collected. These forms are available Wednesday through Sunday at the visitor center.
Park officials say firewood should be for personal use and not resold.
