WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. (WJPF) — A damage assessment team from the National Weather Service have determined that a small tornado touched down in Franklin County Sunday night.
The EF-1 twister had estimated peak wind speeds of about 95 miles per hour. It stayed on the ground for about 4 ½ miles and reached a maximum width of about 175 yards.
No injuries were reported in the storm, but a number of buildings suffered roof damage. Most of the damage was on the west side of West Frankfort. Trees and utility poles were also blown down.
