HURST, Ill. (WJPF) — Seven people were treated for injuries after a chemical explosion Monday at a Williamson County Recycling Center.
Emergency crews responded to T&T Recycling Center in Hurst at about 10:15 a.m. after a container holding chlorine gas exploded.
Two people were treated by EMS at the scene. Five people were taken to the hospital for their injuries, including one whose injuries required them to be airlifted to a regional medical center.
What caused the explosion is not clear. The investigation is being handled by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
