JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (WJPF) — An apparent attempted kidnapping is under investigation in Johnston City.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of West 11th Street.

Police say a young girl was playing in her yard when an unknown woman grabbed the girl by her feet and tried to drag her into a small red car waiting nearby. A second unknown person was driving the car.  The girl managed to run away.

The person who grabbed the girl is described by police as a heavy-set woman with red hair.
