Despite several obstacles and delays over the last three years, the developer of a proposed Holiday Inn Express in Murphysboro is optimistic the project could break ground this spring.

Developer Joe Koppeis said the hotel will feature around 85 rooms. There are also plans to develop a small retail space at the site of the former Apple Tree Inn. Koppeis reportedly is in negotiations with a fast food chain to build on the site.
