Hundreds of new laws go into effect Jan. 1, but Illinoois’ newly-passed law allowing multi-year vehicle registration is not one of them.
Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the bill into law that will allow a driver to register a car for two years, but it won’t come live until 2021 to allow time for the Secretary of State’s office to implement the changes at facilities across the state. There won’t be any cost savings from registering two years at a time. Unless prices change, you would pay $202 for the multi-year registration.
