CARBONDALE, IL. (WJPF) – One of the oldest building in Carbondale went up in smoke Tuesday.
The apartment house, which sits at 409 W Main Street, was originally built as a private home in the 1880s.
The fire broke out around 7:30 AM. All residents inside were able to make it out safely. No cause has yet been determined.
West bound Route 13 was shut down for about three hours while crews from multiple fire departments were on the scene. The building is thought to be a total loss.
