Interstate 57 in Franklin County has reopened after a two vehicle, five horse wreck near Benton.

According to authorities, a pickup pulling a horse trailer was travelling south on 57 when it rear driver’s side wheel came off. The truck and trailer then jack-knifed, ejecting all five horse inside.

A semi tractor trailer travelling along side struck one of the animals, killing it, and heavily damaging the truck. The other four horses survived.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The driver of the pickup was treated for minor injuries.
