CHICAGO (AP) — A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the son of late Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka that accused her former chief of staff of improperly using leftover campaign money he sought for himself.
According to the State Journal-Register in Springfield, Cook County Judge Anna Demacopoulos on Thursday dismissed the lawsuit and ruled Joseph Baar Topinka had no right to the $341,618 he sought.
He had accused Nancy Kimme of spending money from the fund.
She has denied that, calling the lawsuit dishonest.
Topinka had argued that money in the account prior to a 1998 change in state law should be part of Judy Baar Topinka’s estate and go to him.
The judge ruled that Judy Baar Topinka wanted the money to go to a local Republican Party group.
