CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A police standoff involving an infant child ended peacefully Thursday in Carbondale
Carbondale Police say a report of a disturbance at about 1:40 a.m. sent officers to an apartment in the 400 block of South Poplar Street. According to CPD, after Joseph Clopton, 39, hit another person, he barricaded himself inside the home with his infant child.
Negotiations between Clopton and police went on for about 6 hours. He surrendered at about 7:45 a.m. The baby was given back to its mother unharmed. Clopton was taken to jail on charges of domestic battery, endangering the life or health of a child, and resisting a police officer.
