CARBONDALE, Ill. – After one of the most dominating solo performances in school history, Southern Illinois linebacker Ben Bogle was named the Stats Perform FCS and Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week on Monday.
A sophomore linebacker from Ponte Verda, Fla, Bogle had a career-high 12 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, as SIU beat Austin Peay, 31-17, on Saturday.
Southern’s defense played lights-out in the fourth quarter, holding the Governors to minus-eight total yards. Bogle led the fourth-quarter dominance, twice making tackles that forced turnovers on downs. He also had 2.5 sacks in the decisive fourth quarter.
Bogle’s 6.5 tackles for loss were a single-game school record. As a team, SIU recorded nine sacks in the contest.
Bogle becomes the eighth player in school history to earn national Player-of-the-Week honors, and the first since safety PJ Jules won the award in 2023.
