Wednesday evening it was revealed that SIU Football is scheduled to open the 2025 season in West Lafayette, Indiana against the Purdue Boilermakers on September 6, 2025.

Kevin Kelley of FBSchedules.com first broke the news.  SIU Athletics later confirmed the report to River Radio Sports.  According to public records obtained by Kelley, SIU will receive $500,000 from Purdue for playing the game.

It will be the second time in school history that the Salukis and Boilermakers square off.  The first meeting was in 2014, when Purdue pummeled the Salukis 35-13.

The Salukis have an all-time record of 2-7 against the Big Ten but have a chance in the coming years to improve that record – along with the 2025 meeting against Purdue, the Dawgs will also head to Champaign in 2026 to play the University of Illinois and to Madison, WI to face the University of Wisconsin in 2027.

SIU Football kicks off the 2024 season at BYU on Saturday, August 31.
