ZEIGLER, Ill. (WJPF) – A Zeigler man has a police officer to thank for alerting him that his house was on fire.

According to the Zeigler Fire Department, a Zeigler Police Officer reported a possible kitchen fire at the home on Maple Street around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. The police officer woke up a man sleeping inside the home and helped him get to safety.

Firefighters say they extinguished a small fire in a back room of the home quickly after arriving. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
