CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – The man that investigators say fatally hit a person with a car, left the scene, and then burned the car as a way to cover up the crime has been arrested.
Jeremy Shered, 36, of Carbondale was arrested Wednesday in Carbondale for failing to report an accident involving death, arson, reckless homicide involving a motor vehicle, driving while license suspended, obstructing justice, failure to render aid, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Carbondale Police say on May 31, Jeremy Shered hit and killed Michael Welling, 68, at the intersection of East Walnut (EB Rt. 13) and Wall Street as the Welling crossed the street. Shered’s car was found burning the next day on West Pleasant Hill Road.
