EVANSVILLE, Ind. – No. 6 Southern Illinois baseball will have to wait another day to play an elimination game in the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament due to weather in the Evansville area.
The Salukis were expected to play the winner between No. 1 seed Indiana State and No. 5 UIC Friday evening, but that game was moved from a 2 p.m. start to a 6 p.m. start due to inclement weather. Thunderstorms forecasted in the area forced tournament personnel to push SIU’s game to Saturday at 11 a.m. at German American Bank Field.
SIU opened the tournament with a 12-2 run-rule win over Belmont before taking down nationally ranked Indiana State, 10-9, in 11 innings. Southern dropped its first game of the double-elimination tournament late Thursday night to No. 4 Illinois State, 14-8.
