CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University women’s basketball team has added a veteran presence to its locker room, as it has signed graduate transfer Jeniah Thompson.
Thompson, who is from Carterville, Ill., initially came to Southern Illinois her freshman year, but then went to John A. Logan College. There, the 5-foot-9 guard averaged 23.2 points and 11.9 rebounds-per-game, and was a NJCAA Third Team All-American in 2021-22.
After John A. College, Thompson transferred to Wichita State and spent two seasons with the Shockers from 2022-24. The guard played in 49 total games, while shooting .352 from the field during this span.
Thompson scored a season-high 11 points vs. Akron on Nov. 24, and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds against Saint Louis on Dec. 1.
A standout player in the Southern Illinois area, Thompson scored over 1,000 points, was a three-time all-conference selection, and was both All-State and The Southern Illinoisan’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year her junior season.
Thompson, who studied management during her undergrad, comes to SIU as a graduate transfer.
