CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University women’s basketball team continues to add to its 2024 recruiting class, as guard Alice Curman has signed with the program.
Curman is a 5-foot-8, incoming freshman guard from Stockholm, Sweden. She is a combo guard who is explosive, can shoot the three, get downhill, and can also create. On the defensive end, Curman is considered “hard-nosed”, adding more firepower to the Salukis’ backcourt.
“The game honors toughness,” head coach Kelly Bond-White said. “Every film we watched, Alice was diving on the floor, getting steals, taking charges, all while playing a physical brand of basketball. It was those intangibles that set her apart. Her skill set is what made her a Saluki. We love her understanding of tempo and movement without the ball.”
With an unprecedented high school trophy case and a plethora of honors and broken records, Curman is one of the most decorated players throughout her league. The guard won the Scania Cup Gold in 2024 and has won two National Championships (2023 and 2022).
During her team’s championship runs, Alice was a two-time MVP of the Final Four, two-time selection to the All-Star team, two-time Elite Eight player of the round, and was selected Sweet Sixteen player of the round (2022).
In 2021, Curman made her country’s National team where she won the Nordic Championship, and then got silver in the Baltic Tournament and European Championships in 2023.
“Long Zoom calls with her and her family, speaking with coaches and scouts throughout the country,” Bond-White said. “All came back with not only did we find an impact player, we landed an impact person that will allow us to take the NextStep (KBW Foundation) in moving our culture forward.”
Curman plans to study Engineering and Mathematics once she arrives at SIU
