WALTONVILLE, Ill. (WJPF) – A husband and wife are dead after a house fire in Jefferson County.

Firefighters from multiple departments were called to the scene on North Vermont Lane around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses say the man was found dead inside of the home; the wife died later at a St. Louis hospital.  The victims’ names have not been released.  The state fire marshal’s office is investigating.
