FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – A Tennessee man is behind bars in Franklin County, accused of attempted murder, stealing a cop car, and other serious charges.

At about 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Adrian Perry, 36, flagged down a vehicle on Rend City Road. As the driver slowed, Perry tried to get into the vehicle. The driver sped off and called 9-1-1.

A few minutes later, a sheriff’s deputy arrived and began speaking with Perry. At some point, Perry became agitated, began to fight the deputy, and got behind the wheel of the deputy’s squad car. Perry sped off, dragging the deputy alongside the squad car, eventually throwing the deputy to the side of the road.

Adrian Perry crashed the squad car near the Rend Lake Visitor Center. He then attacked a person and tried to steal their vehicle, but was unsuccessful. He then hid in the brush, until being found a short time later, and, this time, surrendering without a fight.

Adrian Perry is being held behind bars until trial. He faces one count of attempted first degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and two carjacking charges.
