SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) released the following statements in response to the Senate passing an anti-gun bill Tuesday:

“Today, the Democratic members of the Senate chose to turn their backs on the U.S. Constitution that they are sworn to protect and uphold. This bill is a clear and unquestionable infringement upon our Second Amendment rights. If this bill becomes law, it will make ordinary, law-abiding citizens criminals and does nothing to curb gun violence committed by actual criminals.”

“On top of several other ill-conceived restrictions, House Bill 5471 will require law-abiding citizens to register their firearms with the state police if they hope to keep it. Given the recent cyber-attack on the state’s FOID card database that is still leaving our citizens with repercussions, I have grave concerns that the government will be able to ensure the security of law-abiding citizens’ confidential information.”
