Two interstate workers were shot Wednesday night in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says around 9:15 pm on July 27th, they responded to a shooting of two ET Simmons employees on Dix-Irvington Road at the I-57 overpass.

The first worker was struck in the back of the head, and the second worker was struck in the chest in what was later determined to be a high powered air rifle.

Detectives were called out and identified a location where the shots originated. The Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County High Risk Team were successful in getting the subjects to leave their residence.

Two juveniles were detained for questioning, arrested and processed, but released to their guardians due to their age.  A high powered air rifle was seized.

Both interstate workers were taken to a local hospital and later transferred for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
