MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WJPF) – Two people have been sentenced to prison time for their role in a dating app robbery.
The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office says they received a complaint from an Indiana man saying he had been robbed in Carbondale while on a date with a woman he met on Tinder.
Prosecutors say in August 2021, Britni Dowdy, 21, of Murphysboro convinced the victim to drive her and a friend around Carbondale. At some point in the night, the victim, Dowdy, and the third person were joined in the car by Marlin Clark, 19, of Carbondale who told the victim to drive to a remote area off of Gold Drive. Dowdy, Clark and the third person robbed the victim, taking $200 and the keys fob to the victim’s vehicle. However, while the three robbers were arguing about the stolen car, the victim sped off, leaving the three standing on the side of the road.
Britni Dowdy and Marlin Clark pleaded guilty to charges of armed robbery. They were each sentenced to 16 ½ years in prison.
