SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois State Police say they’re prepared to deal with trucker convoys that pass through the state.

ISP Sergeant Joey Watson says the situation remains fluid. Some of the convoys are well organized and in touch with authorities, while others are more grass roots efforts.

“…our agency is having to be very adaptable and are moving on the fly with a lot of these issues. We’re looking to create an environment where they can express their first amendment rights and we’re also trying to create an environment where the roadways are safe and people are in compliance with the laws.”

ISP suggest the public use travel apps that show up to the minute traffic updates to help avoid congestion around the convoys.
