WAYNE COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Ray Tate, the man charged with murder in the December shooting death of Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Riley, has plead not guilty to all charges.
The 40-year-old Kentucky man appeared in court Wednesday and waived his right to a jury trial. Tate faces a total of 38 charges, including 36 counts of first degree murder.
Authorities say on December 29, 2021, Ray Tate shot Deputy Sean Riley multiple times during a traffic stop on Interstate 64. Tate is then accused of in a spree of car-jackings and kidnappings that ended with a hostage situation.
Ray Tate will be back in court on March 15, 2022.
