Southern Illinois University guard Makenzie Silvey has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

The graduate guard averaged 21.7 points over three games last week. On Wednesday, Silvey scored 23 points and shot 7-of-10 from the field, leading the Salukis to a win against UT Martin. She again scored 23 points on Friday in a close battle with Middle Tennessee, a game in which she also grabbed nine boards. Silvey closed the week on Sunday by scoring 19 points in Southern’s win over Illinois. This was the Salukis’ first win against Illinois since 1993 and the first victory against a Big 10 school since beating Purdue in 2016.

All told, Silvey averaged 21.7 points and 5.3 rebounds over SIU’s three games, while shooting 53.2% (25-of-47) from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Makenzie is ranked fourth in the MVC in scoring average at an even 16 per game, while also averaging 4.4 assists per game to lead the MVC.

This is the second time Silvey has been awarded Player of the Week honors.

The Salukis return to action Thursday for a road battle against Indiana, before beginning conference play at home against Valparaiso on Dec. 31.
