James Caesar’s time as a Salukis is over.  The sixth year defensive back announced Tuesday night that his season has ended after suffering a shoulder injury during the 31-21 loss at Kansas State.

Caesar will undergo surgery to repair the injury and then begin rehabilitating so that he is “100% healthy” and plans to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft after the season concludes.

Caesar joined the Salukis in the 2016 recruiting class and played significant time at cornerback before ultimately deciding to transfer to Division II Ferris State in 2019.  In 2020 he transferred back to SIU to bolster an already deep secondary.

During his time with the Salukis, Caesar played in 36 games, had a total of 101 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 1 interception, 25 passes defended, 1 forced fumble, and 2 fumble recoveries.  He also was involved in the kick return game from 2016-2018, where he gained 235 yards on 12 attempts.
