HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) — A substitute teacher at Herrin High School has to be placed in protective custody Friday morning after exhibiting what police are calling “strange behavior” in a classroom.

Herrin Police say the incident happened just after 7:30 a.m. in a classroom without any students present. Police say a teacher noticed the substitute display the strange behavior and notified school administration.

Herrin Police were later called and placed the substitute in protective custody without further incident.

Herrin High School was temporarily placed on lockdown. That lockdown has since been lifted.

No students or school staff were harmed in any way.
