CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — This week, the Senate and House Redistricting Committees will hold a series of hearings, all open to the public, to consider potential changes to legislative maps.

The maps, approved by Governor Pritzker earlier this year, were drawn without accurate population data from the 2020 U.S. Census. Now that the data is available, lawmakers are considering changing the maps.

One of the scheduled hearings will happen in southern Illinois. On Saturday, August 28, the Senate Redistricting Committee will meet virtually, but members of the public can testify at the SIU Student Center in the Vermilion Room. The hearing starts at 3:00 p.m.
