JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — Portions of two interstates in Jefferson County were closed for a short time Wednesday when a tractor trailer hauling lumber overturned and spilled it’s cargo.

The accident happened at about 5:00 p.m. Illinois State Police say the truck was traveling westbound on the Interstate 64 overpass above Interstate 57 when the driver lost control and hit the guardrail on the right side. The truck then overturned onto its side, spilling lumber on both the I-64 overpass and onto I-57 below.

The driver, 55-year-old Tony Johnson of Mobile, Alabama, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Johnson was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
