Illinois State Police investigated two fatal accidents hours apart Saturday in Wayne County.
36-year-old Jonathan Stanley of Fairfield was killed about 4 p.m. on U.S. Route 45 when his northbound vehicle was struck from behind by a semi. The truck driver was not injured but ticketed on a charge of driving too fast for conditions.
Later that day police were called to a county road after an unidentified West Salem man ran off the road, hit two ditches and a culvert before coming to rest in a cornfield. The man has not been identified, pending notification of relatives.
