Murphysboro mayor Will Stephens has withdrawn his name for consideration as a Republican candidate for 115th state representative.

In a Facebook post, Stephens said he did not want to continue a costly legal battle to fight those who challenged the signatures he provided to the state on his election petition.

Stephens said an opponent objected to the petitions for a host of reasons.
