SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Community organizations may apply for $4 million in grants to gear up for the 2020 Census and to help immigrants interact with government agencies.
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White made the announcement Thursday. He is chairman of the Illinois Complete Count Commission . Its goal is to educate and prepare residents for the April 1, 2020 Census.
Groups may apply for the “Census Participation” grant of $1.5 million. There is also $2.5 million available under the “Assisting Immigrant Communities in Navigating Government Services” grant.
White says grant applicants must submit information about their organization, its mission, the amount of money requested and an explanation of how funds will be used.
The application deadline is March 13.
