Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 on Thursday afternoon.

Reports indicate the driver of an eastbound 2019 Infiniti ran off the roadway, traveled through the median and entered the westbound lanes. The driver collided head-on with a minivan and then into a tree line.

The driver of the Infiniti was transported to a local hospital where the coroner pronounced him deceased. A passenger was not injured. Names of those involved were not released.

The driver and passengers of the minivan were treated at the scene, but not transported to any medical facility, police report.
