CARBONDALE, IL. (WJPF) – A candidate for Carbondale City Council has dropped out of the race, citing a possible conflict of interest.
Greg Knoob is the current owner of a Stix in Carbondale. Current state and local law prohibits those serving on a city council from also holding a liquor license. Meaning if he were elected, Knoob would have to give up his bar’s liquor license in order to serve on the council.
Knoob has also been under attack from other candidates who were making the claim that a number of the signatures on Knoob’s petition to get on the ballot, came from non-residents of Carbondale. Knoob has denied that accusation.
