Illinois State Police are reporting a fatal traffic accident early Saturday morning in Union County.

According to police, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57, shortly after 1:30 a.m.

An unidentified 25-year-old male motorist left the roadway and struck a tree. He was not seriously injured.

A 47-year-old male front seat passenger was killed in the accident. A rear seat passenger also received minor injuries.

All three men were from Michigan, according to police.
