A report from Kaiser Health News claims that a professor at SIU’s Medical School in Springfield broke health and safety laws by administering an experimental herpes vaccine in a hotel room.
SIU Springfield officials say that they had no knowledge of professor William Halford’s actions.
According to the Kaiser report, Halford injected at least eight people with the vaccine inside a room at a Holiday Inn located about 15 minutes from the Springfield school.
He then used a school monitered email account to ask follow up questions about any side effects those people were experiencing.
Halford, who passed away this summer, has also been accused of carrying out a similar study on a Caribbean island.
